Small City WIP

This is how far I have reached so far in my small city block project. Just some simple blocking out of the city block, streets, side walks and buildings. At first I was going to try a Hexagonal layout decided to scrap that to try something simpler layout for my very first try to city making.
I scrap this to go for a simpler layout for my first try at city making
While it is a fictional city I have been using reference photos from Dubai mostly, and also from New York. Reference photos are important!
I am trying my best to make everything to scale, roughly. I googled some average measurements for a real city, such as:
The average Lane width for a road, got various measurements, from 10-15 ft, I used 12 ft/4 yards for mine
The average height of a single story for a building, got measurements from 9-12 ft, I used 12 ft/4 yards
for mine. I blocked out one floor then used an array modifier to add the rest, depending on how many floors I wanted. Average sidewalk width found was 5-6 ft, I used 9 ft/ 3 yards for my city.
I also put in some human representatives, some simple cuboids that are 2 yards/6 ft high, representing the height of a person.
the purple thing is the human analog, 6 ft in height, 2 ft wide

City Project
Today begins my fairly ambitious project, to model and texture a city, or at least part of one. Not a real city, like New York or Tokyo, but a fictional city with fictional buildings. I have never done this before and I don't know how it will turn out but I am determined to try. I am currently without work and have lots of time on my hands, despite this fact I have not been doing much in terms of art. I like doing 3d and I like to draw as well. I have had many ideas to do projects, like making a comic or making illustrations, but have been quite lackadaisical, i.e., lacking enthusiasm and determination, and also procrastinating. I hope that I can change this one step at a time.
Wish me Luck :)
